Fulminant new recording of a large repertoire

The name “J. S. Bach” stands for perhaps the greatest music of all time – and for the program of Nemanja Radulovic’s new album, on which he expresses his admiration for the master of all masters. Highlights from Bach’s catalog of works are collected here, which the Serbian violinist with the spirited demeanor reinterprets in a personal way together with his chamber orchestra Double Sens: after his successful Beethoven album, awarded the OPUS Klassik 2024, the next encounter with an important figure in music history. At the heart of the album are the Double Concerto for violin and oboe, the Violin Concerto in E major and the Piano Concerto in D minor arranged for violin, three central Bach works that are closely linked to Radulovi’s own musical biography. The same applies to the Prelude from the First Cello Suite, which he often heard performed by his cello-playing sisters as a child and which – here in the violin version – has been one of the great musical leitmotifs of his life ever since. Also on board as a prominent guest: countertenor star Philippe Jaroussky, who takes on the vocal part in the aria “Erbarme dich” from the St. Matthew Passion. In an unconventional yet respectful arrangement, the “Badinerie” from the Orchestral Suite No. 2 reveals one of the many cheerful facets of Bach’s music, which can be experienced here in dazzling colorfulness and moving depth of expression.
