popOFF!<\/strong> ist ein Wortspiel zwischen dem ber\u00c3\u00bchmten Lied des tollpatschigen Kosaken des Zaren und der Idee, Genre- und Altersgrenzen zu \u00c3\u00bcberschreiten. <\/span><\/p>\n

Paolo Fresu stellt sich hier mal wieder einer neuen Herausforderung, und das mit einer Prise Verr\u00c3\u00bccktheit: Es ist die Jazz-Neuinterpretation einiger Lieder des Zecchino D’Oro, des weltber\u00c3\u00bchmten Gesangswettbewerbs, der der Kindheit gewidmet ist. Die Idee zu diesem Projekt entspringt dem Wunsch des Trompeters, die Stadt zu ehren, die ihn seit den 80er Jahren beherbergt und ihn 2017 mit dem Nettuno D’Oro ausgezeichnet hat: Bologna<\/span>
\nDer Gedanke ging sofort zum Zecchino D’Oro: das Antoniano, der historische Ort der Veranstaltung, befindet sich n\u00c3\u00a4mlich in Bologna. Das Interesse von Fresu f\u00c3\u00bcr Projekte, die der Kindheit gewidmet sind, besteht schon seit geraumer Zeit: Zusammen mit seiner Frau Sonia Peana (Geigerin und Gr\u00c3\u00bcnderin des Streichquartetts, das auf dem Album zu h\u00c3\u00b6ren ist) hat er 2010 in Bologna Nidi di Note ins Leben gerufen, ein Projekt, das darauf abzielt, die Musik von klein auf zum Leuchten zu bringen.<\/span>
\nWo sonst k\u00c3\u00b6nnte man die Musik aufnehmen als in den mythischen Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, der Heimat von Lucio Dalla, Vasco, Gaetano Curreri, Luca Carboni und Samuele Bersani, um nur einige der vielen K\u00c3\u00bcnstler zu nennen, die dort ihre Musik aufgenommen haben. Dank eines Zuschusses der UNESCO-Musikstadt Bologna<\/strong> wurde aus der Hommage ein Album, das am 1. Oktober bei Tuk Kids, dem der Kindheit gewidmeten Zweig von T\u00c7\u201dk Music, erscheinen wird. PopOFF!<\/strong> ist die erste Ver\u00c3\u00b6ffentlichung.<\/span>
\nDie Herausforderung war nicht einfach: die musikalische Strenge und die zeitgen\u00c3\u00b6ssische Atmosph\u00c3\u00a4re mit der Leichtigkeit, der Naivit\u00c3\u00a4t und der Verspieltheit von Liedern wie “Quarantaquattro Gatti”, “Il Valzer del Moscerino”, “Caff\u00c3\u00a8 della Peppina” und “Volevo un Gatto Nero” in Einklang zu bringen, Lieder, die sowohl als Kinder als auch als Erwachsene zum Soundtrack vieler Generationen geh\u00c3\u00b6rten und einen festen Platz in der kollektiven Vorstellungswelt haben.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ebenso schnell kam Fresu auf die Idee, Cristina Zavalloni<\/strong> als S\u00c3\u00a4ngerin f\u00c3\u00bcr diese St\u00c3\u00bccke zu engagieren: Zavalloni ist eine S\u00c3\u00a4ngerin aus Bologna, die sowohl im Jazz als auch in der zeitgen\u00c3\u00b6ssischen klassischen Musik zu Hause ist und die Familientradition fortsetzen kann, denn ihr Vater Paolo Zavalloni – alias Zavallone – war von 1989 bis 2003 musikalischer Leiter des Antoniano. Mit dem Album ist es Zavalloni auch gelungen, sich ihren Kindertraum zu erf\u00c3\u00bcllen: beim Zecchino D’Oro zu singen!<\/span>
\nDie Besetzung besteht aus dem Streichquartett Alborada (Anton Berovski – Violine, Sonia Peana – Violine, Nico Ciricugno \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Viola, Piero Salvatori – Cello), mit Arrangements von Cristiano Arcelli, der auch Sopransaxophon, Bassklarinette, Fl\u00c3\u00b6te und Melodica spielt, und wird von Dino Rubino am Piano und Philicorda und Marco Bardoscia am Kontrabass begleitet. Zudem markiert das Album das musikalische Deb\u00c3\u00bct von Luca Devito, einem Faktotum des Labels Tuk Music, der auf “Il Valzer del Moscerino” als Gastfl\u00c3\u00b6tist zu h\u00c3\u00b6ren ist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nun, ist die Herausforderung gewonnen? <\/span>
\nEs ist Fresu selbst, der diese Frage in den Anmerkungen des reichhaltigen Booklets behandelt: “Es liegt nicht wirklich an uns, es zu wissen, und wir halten es auch nicht f\u00c3\u00bcr so wichtig. Was wirklich z\u00c3\u00a4hlt, ist, dass wir uns wieder als Kinder f\u00c3\u00bchlen und Geschichten erleben konnten, die zu uns geh\u00c3\u00b6ren.”<\/span>
\nDas wunderbare Artwork des Albums und die Bilder des Booklets wurden von Lorenzo Mattotti gezeichnet, der in Brescia geboren wurde und heute in Paris lebt. Seine au\u00c3\u0178ergew\u00c3\u00b6hnliche Karriere hat ein Kapitel in Bologna, wo er zusammen mit Igort und Daniele Brolli das Cartoonisten- und Illustratorenkollektiv Valvoline gr\u00c3\u00bcndete.<\/span>
\nMit dem Projekt der von Claudio Stanghellini gedrehten Videoclips, das mit La Giostra del Carillon beginnt, das an einigen historischen Orten Bolognas gefilmt wurde und auch auf unserem offiziellen YouTube-Kanal zu sehen sein wird, schlie\u00c3\u0178t sich der Kreis.<\/span>
\npopOFF!<\/strong> wurde dank des Beitrags der UNESCO-Musikstadt Bologna<\/strong> m\u00c3\u00b6glich gemacht.<\/span><\/p>\n

popOFF!<\/strong> is a pun between the famous song of the clumsy cossack of the Czar and the idea of crossing genre and age barriers.<\/span>
\nHere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Paolo Fresu\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new challenge with a pinch craziness: it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the jazz reintepretation of some of the songs of the Zecchino D\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Oro, the world famous song contest dedicated to childhood.<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea of the project comes from the trumpeter\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s wish to pay tribute to the town that welcomed him since the \u00e2\u20ac\u212280ies, and that in 2017 awarded him with the Nettuno D\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Oro: Bologna<\/span><\/p>\n

The thought immediately went to the Zecchino D\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Oro: the Antoniano, the historical location of the event, is in fact based in Bologna. <\/span>
\ntTe interest of Fresu for projects dedicated to childhood has been going for quite some time: with his wife Sonia Peana (violinist and founder of the string quartet featured in the album) he started Nidi di Note 2010 in Bologna, a project aimed to light the music sparkle from a very early age.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where else could they record the music but at the mythic Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, home of Lucio Dalla, Vasco, Gaetano Curreri, Luca Carboni and Samuele Bersani, to name just a few of the many artists that have recorded their music there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to a grant by Bologna UNESCO City of Music<\/strong> the tribute has become an album to be released on october 1st on T\u00c7\u201dk\u00c2\u00a0Kids, T\u00c7\u201dk\u00c2\u00a0Music branch dedicated to childhood of which popOFF! <\/strong>is the debut release.<\/span><\/p>\n

The challenge wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t an easy one: to match the musical rigour and the contemporary atmospheres with the lightness, naivety and playfulness which permeate songs such as \u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Quarantaquattro Gatti\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, \u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Il Valzer del Moscerino\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Caff\u00c3\u00a8 della Peppina\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Volevo un Gatto Nero\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, songs that have been the soundtrack of many generations both as children and as grown ups, and that have a definite place in the collective imagination.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quite as instantly Fresu thought to involve Cristina Zavalloni to sing these tracks: Zavalloni is a singer from Bologna completely at ease with both jazz and contemporary classical music, and able to continue the family tradition as her father Paolo Zavalloni – alias Zavallone \u00e2\u20ac\u201c was the musical director of the Antoniano from 1989 to 2003.\u00c2\u00a0 With the album Zavalloni also managed to fulfil her child dream: to sing at the Zecchino D\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Oro!<\/span><\/p>\n

The line up is composed by the string Quartet Alborada (Anton Berovski on violino,\u00c2\u00a0 Sonia Peana on violin, Nico Ciricugno on viola and\u00c2\u00a0 Piero Salvatori on cello), with arrangements by Cristiano Arcelli, who also plays soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, flute and melodica, and are accompanied on piano e philicorda by Dino Rubino, Marco Bardoscia on double bass; the album marks the musical debut of Luca Devito, Tuk Music label factotum with solid musical formation, who guests on flute on \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcIl Valzer del Moscerino\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/span><\/p>\n

Has the challenge been won? <\/span>
\nit is Fresu himself who deals with the question in the notes of the lavish booklet: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not really for us to know, and neither we think it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s that important. What really matters is that we got to feel children again, and to relive stories that belong to us.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

The magnificent album artwork and the booklet images have been drawn by Lorenzo Mattotti, born in Brescia and now living in Paris; his extraordinary career has a chapter in Bologna where he founded the cartoonist and illustrator collective Valvoline, together with Igort and Daniele Brolli.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everything comes to a full circle with the project of videoclips shot by Claudio Stanghellini, that begins with La giostra del carillon<\/em>, filmed in some of Bologna historical spots and which will be revealed on our official YouTube profile.<\/span><\/p>\n
