Gerard de Haro vom Aufnahmestudio La Buissonne hatte schon lange die Idee, zwei Musiker zusammenzubringen zwei Musiker zusammenzubringen, die er oft begrüßt und betreut hatte, weil sie in ihm so oft ein Wunder” erweckt hatten, die aber nie zusammen gespielt hatten. So gab er den Anstoß zu dem Treffen zwischen Vincent Courtois und Bill Carrothers, das ohne das Vertrauen, das diese Musiker dem Tontechniker seit langem entgegenbringen, nicht zustande gekommen wäre. “Wäre die Idee nicht von ihm gewesen, hätte ich wohl kaum positiv reagiert”

Wenige Minuten nach dem Treffen im Studio von La Buissonne, das akribisch vorbereitet wurde, beginnen Courtois und Carrothers mit einer lebhaften und zugleich melancholischen
Improvisation, die dem Album seinen Titel geben wird. An einem Tag voller Emotionen wird das Duo, begleitet Baritonsaxophonist Eric Seva, wechselt das Duo zwischen Eigenkompositionen,Â
Jazz-Standards (“Deep Night”, “Isfahan”) und einem Joni Mitchell-Klassiker (“Circle Game”), und das Ganze wird umerahmt von zwei gespiegelten Interpretationen von “Agua & Vinho” des Brasilianers Egberto Gismonti.
Das Ergebnis ist eine “Musik der Fülle und der Suche”, so Gérard de Haro. Ein subtiles und natürliches Zwischenspiel, das zweifellos ein Meilenstein in Carrothers’ und Courtois’
jeweiligen Diskographien werden wird.

Gerard de Haro, from la Buissonne recording studio, had long cherished the idea of bringing
together two musicians he had often welcomed and directed as they had so often awakened in
him a feeling of ‘ Wonder’ but who had never played together. So he gave the impetus to
the meeting between Vincent Courtois and Bill Carrothers and this could not have taken
place without the confidence these musicians have given to the sound engineer for such a
long time. “If the idea had not been his I don’t think I would have responded favourablyâ€
Vincent Courtois confesses.
A few minutes after the meeting in la Buissonne studio, which had been meticulously
prepared for them, Courtois and Carrothers launch into both a lively and melancholic
improvisation that will give the album its title. During a day high in emotion, the duo, joined
by baritone saxophonist Eric Seva, alternates between original compositions, jazz
standards (“Deep Nightâ€, “Isfahanâ€) and a Joni Mitchell classic (“Circle Gameâ€) and the
whole is framed by two mirrored interpretations of “Agua & Vinho†from the Brazilian Egberto
Gismonti.
The result is a “music of fulgurance and quest “, according to Gérard de Haro. A subtle and
natural interlude which will undoubtedly become a milestone in Carrothers’ and Courtois’s
respective discographies.[:]
